Fire Safety

In the wake of the Grenfell tower block fire tragedy, new figures released by the Home Office show that the number of fire safety inspections carried out in homes across the country has dropped by one fifth over the last seven years.

The figures released by the Home Office are quite eye-opening, especially when the country has been so affected by the recent tower block inferno, the cruel loss of life and the plight of the survivors. The tragedy has sharply raised awareness of fire safety measures not only in tower block homes, but also within any flats or high-rise accommodation across the UK.

Those people that are worried about the fire safety of their homes, whether high-rise or not, have been given a terrifying reminder of how devastating a house fire can be. Many home owners as well as business owners are now questioning just how safe their property is from the risk of fire?

While the number of fire inspections has gone down over the past seven year, the figures also show that the number of deaths from fire across England rose by more than 50% last year, these figures do not include the recent Grenfell tragedy where the exact figures for the dead have not as yet been officially confirmed. Data shows that in 2016/17 41 people died in house fires, compared to 26 the year before. Next years figures will see another sharp rise following the devastating tower block inferno.

Residents living in Grenfell Tower had been voicing concerns for a number of years about fire safety within the block. This tragedy only goes to show the devastating effects of failing to keep up to date with current fire safety standards.
